Is Renovating Worth it?
Selling As-Is vs. Fixing Up Your Home

Time is Money

If you have already moved into a new home, or if you are extremely busy with work and family life, you might not have the time to put into renovations. Even if you plan to hire someone else to renovate for you, there is a lot of time and mental energy that needs to be put into major renovations. Even the most trusted, experienced contractor will need information from you that can take lots of time.

If you plan to do home renovations yourself, prepare for them to take far more time than you think. As the saying goes: fast, cheap, or good - pick two. If you or a contractor does fast, good work, it will likely cost a lot. If someone does cheap, good work it will take a long time. Finally, if someone can do fast, cheap work it will probably not be very good! While renovation sells, you want to make sure that you are performing quality work.

In short, when you are thinking about whether to remodel your home or to sell it as is, it’s all about cost versus reward. It’s true: renovation sells, and can increase the list price and sale price of your home. However, if your renovations are going to cost you far more than the potential difference in sale price, it’s likely better to list your home as-is. You can still get a return on your investment if you sell your home as is, but if you have the time and money to make smaller renovations, this can go a long way.
